Though his style was western but for the theme of his paintings and oleographs, he was very close to people, his art was also appreciated by common men.

Raja Ravi Varma was born in the ruling family of Kerala. He was a genius in the field of painting, drawing, watercolours and oleographs. Ravi Varma had subscribed to the ethos of his class and glorified the mythical and the religious concept. His works were both thematic and stylistic, in French neo-classicism. He used to incorporate western techniques into the Indian theme and his works always contained messages of high moral order or some form of the Indian.
